Is the 3m speedglas 9002x worth the money?
Reply:i have no idea... ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thats a hard question to answer. Some guys swear their $40.00 harbor freight hoods are better than a speedglas, or uvex or miller or jackson or the rest of them. These folks will say no. If it works for them thats fine. I personally think they are. The're light weight,I really notice the difference when i use my old jackson. I also like the vents for your breath. I weld in the rain and snow and cold now and then and it doesn't fog up. My old hoods were fogged up all the time. Its a shade 5 when its off so I do all my torch work with it. The variable shade and delay functions are nice. I weld stick with shade 10, flux core with shade 11 and air arc with shade 12. The delay function is handy when using the air arc. The downside is the head gear is a little flimsy. I had to buy a new one after a few years. Cost about $25.00. The lenses are a little expensive. The company I work for buys them though. I've let 6 different guys try my hood and they all own one now. I own three, ones a flex view, all three have sidewindows. Even though I've had to move to keep anothers arc from flashing me now and then I would recommend the sidewindows. Its nice to be able to see whats going on around you. This is just my opinion though.
Reply:I agree with everything spuddown said. I have two auto helmets one is a migatronic and the other a speedglas I would go the speedgas any day it is very comfortable to wear if you weld for long periods at a time.Simonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html
Reply:Who is to say. When you compare the price up against a cardboard hood with a fixed shade, probably not. When you compare all the conviences of 'auto dark', definitely. Of course you can't, shouldn't, throw your auto dark on the ground in the rain. For what little I do as a hobbiest I could probably get by with a plain ole hood, but you won't catch me going back now.I about croaked when I shelled out whatever it was for my speediglass but I was determined to make the leap and I'm not much of a Harbor Freight guy when it comes to electronics.
Reply:I have both a Speedglas and a Miller and I prefer the Speedglas hands down. The breathing vents, the shape, the controls, and the lightweight make it better in my opinion.
Reply:I have a 9002x that I use. At about $300, I wouldn't say that it's six times better than an HF auto-dark hood, which works pretty well, but it's a matter of cost and convenience. If you can afford one of the better hoods on the market, they'll definitely be a pleasure to use. The real benefit of a Speedglas is that they are extraordinarily clear. As stated, they're very lightweight, but the headgear is a bit flimsy.-Heath
Reply:thanks for the comments. i have the harbor freight model. its ok.i order the speedglas 9002x. i got it for 279.00 shipped.it was a hard decision which one to get.
Reply:Congrats on your purchase, I would be surprised if you don't like it. I also wear a 3m respirator with the 2091 filters alot of the time and it fits perfect inside the hood. Let us know what you think after you use it awhile.
Reply:i recieved my speedglas 9002x today and it puts the hf helmet to shame |
