Hello, I was wondering if this is really possible. Before I go on, this is my reasons for thinking about this. I was recently robbed of $1k of items from my car, 1/2 of that stereo (I  thieves). I want to put a teather or three on the back of the deck and one on each speaker. The idea/question: I want to try mig welding 1/8" stainless stranded cable to a 1/8" steel plate, of which will be secured to the deck/speakers with tamper-resistant screws. I can't find much in the way of crimp-on eye hole lugs (that can't be torn/hacked off), thus the reason. I don't mind if it rusts or is more brittle than normal, I'm mainly curious if anyone has tried this before. Otherwise I'll have to do a lot of work bending & brazing it all. BTW the reason I'm asking & not trying - I haven't received all the supplies just yet. Thanks.
Reply:Not trying to crush your groove, but I can cut 1/8" SS aircraft cable with plain diagonal cutters.    I've seen where larger steel cable, 1/2" or so, has been welded to plate, but it was only for a temporary set up.     Could you install your stereo equipment and speakers using stainless hardware and once installed, take a die grinder to the fastener heads & nuts and make them tamper proof? There are no small projects
Reply:I have to wonder what good a cable that size would do.    It can be cut with linemans pliers and is not likely to slow down a thief that bothered to bering his own tools.I'm not sure what to suggest other than a shot gun and good aim.    Alarms can help if and only if they are not disabled as part of the crime.    Personally I spend no money at all on my truck or other vehicles.     They just rust away anyways. As far as crimping goes that is very possible.    The reality is though that the crimpers are very expensive.    We aen't taliking Stacon type crimps here.Dave
Reply:Well here's the deal - its all in a Honda Civic. Basicly all they have to do is rip a section of the dash off (all plastic), then break the surround for the radio to get the radio out. Basicly its not designed for theft prevention. I do plan on replacing that missing plate with steel...that I weld on...but it will still take some time to cut that cable if they can pull the deck out of it's 'cage'. What I'm trying to do is anything that you normally wouldn't expect. I'm sure if a theif knows enough to disable the new alarm I'm putting on ('armored' since I can weld), the battery backup, the aux. alarm, the multiple 130+db sirens, etc... then there's not much I could have done in the first place. The whole deal with car security is to do whatever you can to increase the time it takes for them to get anything. As for size, I have to keep the size reasonable. Any suggestion on that? 1x7 strand 1/4", 302 or 304 alloy? I'm guessing 302 since its inside, and I want hardness. Size/crimping isn't that big of an issue, the place I work at has the tools to crimp most sizes.
