Are you guys able to do 1.5" 304SS in 1 pass and get good penetration? Also, what amperage are you guys using? I've been using 3/32" 2% thoriated. What size filler? I plan on back purging as well.Any pics of the sized bevel your using, or are you using the bevel that comes on the weldels from the foundery? Here are the weld els that I order:http://www.acestainless.com/index.ph...od&productId=3The whole goal of this is to turn out very high quality turbo headers. Any pointers would be great.
Reply:you should be able to fuse that with little problems..go 1/16 tungeston straight argon...around 75-100 amps dc straightif you need filler 1/16 304acetone everything inside and out..small tacks at 12:00 3:00 6:00 start the fusing process at 9:00and go all the way around without stopping...small circles with the flame.......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:So your saying I should fuse the material on the root pass, and then go back over it with a filler pass to cap the root?Regards,Justin
Reply:no thats not what i'm typing..fuse it and forget it..you wont believe how strong it is.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I want to get good penetration since this turbo header will be living at rather high tempetures and will be heat cycled a lot in its lifetime. I am planning on beveling the pipe somewhat. I guess I'll just get the material and start playing. My goal is to get penetration like this:Regards,JustinLast edited by JustinOlson; 08-09-2006 at 05:25 PM.
Reply:fusing will be plenty strong especially with stainless...if it was reg crs header tubing then you'd need to fill it from the start..stainless is sweet..we used to just fuse cages together that were twist cycled 1 million times before they went into use..they loaded sampling equipment in them after do drag around for weeks on the bottom of the ocean..fuse it and forget it...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:ZAP knows what he's talking about listen to himChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:The only time I ever use filler with stainless under 1/8" is on inside corners.
Reply:by the way thats a nice pic...it was purged from the inside hows your argon supply?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
