hey guys, i'm an industrial electrician now, and have very little experience stick welding, but from what i did weld, i really enjoyed it. where would be a good place to start? should i start out as a helper/apprentice at a company? or go to a school?
Reply:Both.I was trained on the job at first, & loved the trade, which prompted me to take classes later on.The classes helped me out a ton, & definitely helped to fill some holes in my skillsBuy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:join a local union boilermakers/fitters they will school you in the ways of the rod and make top pay while doing it along with a good retirement...After the arc has died the weld remains

Reply:I wish I could get out of the trade myself. Too old to keep up and too old/dumb to learn much else. Aerospace is going through some rough times right now with the current administration trying to castrate the space program but when it's good, it's real good. Try to learn some advanced processes if you can. Plasma, Friction stir, Electron Beam. Two turn tables and a microphone. |
