Hello Everyone,                     Just thought you may be interested in this compressor,The pump unit itself is an American made York-Shipley twin cyl single stage delivering about 7cu ft per min. That had already had a former life running a Butcher shop walk in fridge unit, So what the original age is I do not know perhaps someone can help me out? When I aquired it in 1963 I was 19 years of age, it was sitting on a very old totally riveted air tank that was only 16swg and leaked air at every seam, Previous owner had tried to repair leaks(badly)by welding and only made the problem worse,It was driven by what looked like a washing machine 1/2 HP motor,Over the next four years it saw little use( I was too scared to go enywhere near the tank when upto 100 PSI. Finally took pity on it after getting married and buying my own place, Junked all but the  pump unit and started with a clean slate,Built new tank from12" dia pipe with 3/8" Thk end plates, welded on full length saddle to carry comp and new 1.1/2HP motor, Also numerous fittings in 1/2" BSP and 1/4" BSP for automatic pressure switch, drain ****,gauge and air-line fittings,When finished it was plugged off and hydraulic tested to 400psi,No leaks at all and held pressure on the twin test gauges for over an hour, Hydraulic tested at regular intervals and never had a problem. This photo was taken about 3years ago after retiring and giving this old friend a complete strip and check over(nothing to do even bores, rings, valves etc were in perfect unmarked condition) Just gave it a new coat of paint and new air filter made from a tupperware container filled with open cell foam, Guard not yet refitted in photo,Thank goodness for the good old machines, Built from fine materials,(no electronics)and over engineered to virtually last a lifetime. Reply:I was a little leary when you said you welded up your own tank, until I got to the part about the 400 psi proof-pressure-test.And a nice industrial machinery green paint you put on it too.  Looks like a nice job.  The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Gotta love Tupperware!! I just finished paying for a portable I had on 'layaway' over the summer. I need to use this purchase plan more often, as it beats throwing out a plastic card by a country mile!City of L.A. Reply:Hello tanglediver,                       Your new purchase looks like a really nice peice of kit, And no electricity needed, Those Honda engines are excellent, My son uses them on his road tankers powering the pumps that keep his crop spraying Unimogs filled up, The engines stand outside in all weathers,Just fill the petrol tank pull the recoil cord a couple of times and away they Go,  Regards  gordon.
Reply:That's a nice compressor.  Kind of along the lines of my old one. Will it keep up with a paint gun?, or do you have to add another tank inline? You can pass that unit along to your children one day, it's gonna be around for a long time longer.Oh, and hey?  Are y'all in Europe all standard wired 220/240v in your homes?"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:I paint outside so air is always a problem.  I have to turn the pressure at the gun up to around 60 so the spray doesn't blow away before it hits the metal.Little gnats, and stuff, that get stuck to the paint aren't too big of a problem.  Leave them alone, and eventually their little legs rot off.  No gnats"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
