what size hoses welding cable?

hello just in the process of building my first welding rig and am wondering what size oxyacet hoses i should go with?  1/4 inch or 3/16. what type of gauges. and for sure i will go with quick connects. any otheradvice? thanks for your help
Reply:Welcome!the size of hoses depends on how much length you'll need. I usually get by with 75' of 1/4". I like a 25' hose to the torch because that is going to take the most abuse. Then I am not splicing the longer hose. I have run 2-50'ers and a 25' whip but there is a noticeable pressure drop. It still works though. As far as regulators, Smith, Victor, Harris, Esab (Oxweld & Purox) are the name brands and you can't go wrong. I like Smith because it is top quality, made in USA, and the torches are lifetime warranty. Esab (Oxweld & Purox) are also made in USA and both the torches and regs are lifetime warranty. I prefer cutting torches vs. torch assemblies. I do not gas weld, so I really have no need for it. And the cutting torches just feel better to me. Also I burn propane instead of acetylene for cost and convienience and I just like it better. If this might be what you use, you will need Grade "T" hoses. I would invest in a set of flashback arrestors. They attach to the regs and/or torch. I use them on the regs to protect the cylinders. If you do both, I've been told to get the high flow for the regs and the standard for the torch. As far as quick connects, the majority of guys here swear by the Koike Aronsons. I have a set of Western and they have popped off at a bad time. I will be replacing them with the Koike's. What kind of work do you do? What kind of equipment do you currently have? There are some pretty sharp guys here and can help alot if they know what you're looking to do. Reply:i will be working on tanks and vessels mostly for now, will be running a friends welder for now out of my truck... it is a miller pipe pro so i am just in the process of building my own skid, cable racks etc. its quite the challenge but i am loving it so far
