Reply:Hypertherm 45 - great machine ...
Reply:Hypertherm for a second vote. I have a 60 amp PM1000 and it is a beast. a much smaller one will do what you want, but get the biggest you can afford because once you start using one you will wonder how you did without. And thicker stuff always seems to come along, thus my get as big as you can suggestion. I have had my PM 1000 for over 5 years and never had even a glitch, other than replacing consumables when needed. I'll never buy anything but Hypertherm if I am ever in the market again...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys? Trade?

Reply:Hypertherm is by far the best and also the one that most welding stores stock parts and consumables for. Thats one of the big things to consider. We have a Lincoln, 2 Millers and 2 Hypertherms and another Hypertherm on our plate pro CNC plasma. I wouldnt buy anything else.
Reply:want one that will last the miller 375 not the 375 x a inverta machine a good old type machine
Reply:I never saw a plasma cutter until I was told to repair a Hypertherm. The tech support I got from Hypertherm was much better than my expectations. If and when I buy and learn to use a Plasma Cutter; I will certainly remember the outstanding tech support Hypertherm gave me.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:We just got a Hypertherm 1650 which is rated to 1.25" and so far we have cut 2.125" with no issues.I cut 1.75" and it was still very smooth.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"

Reply:If you are cutting a lot of aluminum...a plasma cutter with a shielded front end will be best. Aluminum is a bit tougher to cut as compard to steel...as it does not oxidize easily and it transfers some heat away from the cut area. It also spatters back on the torch consumables....the shielded torches will allow for drag and template cutting while protecting the nozzle from spatter.By far the best choice would be a Hypertherm Powermax45. You can do aluminum with a Powermax30 (which is unshielded), however expect shorter consumable life as compared to the 45.Attached pics are 3/16" aluminum cut with a Powermax45.Jim Originally Posted by BONEYIm looking at a few plasma cutters .Need one that will last.Cutting 1/4 aluminum or less.Any suggestions??Thanksj

Reply:The Max43 was last built in 1999. Regardless of what the seller says....it was not designed and will not operate on 120 volts. They were good units in their day. If it is in perfect running condition it may be worth around $500. In he event of problems....some of the internal components (such as PC boards) may no longer be available. It is a 40 amp plasma.....cuts 3/8" quite well with a max thickness of about 5/8".Jim Colt Hypertherm
