Hell yall i curious to knos if pivoting is needed for 6013? I know for 6010 and 6011 you do it but not sure for 6013.Also what is the ideal porupose for 6013?  thanks
Reply:Not sure what you mean by "pivoting".  I use '13 as a general purpose rod on light material such as 1/8th inch.  It is ideal for doing corner joints on sheet steel guards and covers.  You can do very nice looking seal welds running fast downhill.  Locally we call it "farmer rod" because it is so easy to use and versatile.  If you have an AC only machine this is a good choice.
Reply:I mean pivot oscalation while welding for 6011 you need to whip the rod. Unlike 7018 is just a drag rod. Im wondering if 6013 needs to be done this way.
Reply:6010 and 6011 are cellulose based rods.  The cellulose is much like paper of sawdust.  When it burns is it produces a cloud of carbon dioxide shielding.  As a result you can hold a long arc and short arc and whip all you like without losing the protection of the shielding.  6013 is a rutile based flux.  It is a mineral product and produces little carbon dioxide to shield.  As a result,  this time, you will lose shielding if you whip.  This rod is described as a fast follow electrode.  You can hold it to a short arc or even drag.  If you increase the forward speed the bead will get thinner but still follow the electrode.  if you try this with other rods you end up with a series of dribbles.  The flux is relatively thin so you can do some pretty wide weaves as long as you keep a short arc.
