hey everyone, I am looking a new torch setup for my dynasty 200dx and I am a little confussed on which route to go. Iwas thinking either a CK torch or a weldcraft.First off, really the only tig machine that i used so far is a miller dynasty 300dx @ work and if has a blackgold(says on the handle) water cooled torch that has a nice ball flex head. I got really used to it(because thats all i used) and the ball flex is really convienent for welding different angles, like around a tube. When i weld i have to rest my elbow or use my pinky to support my hand when i weld. I guess i havent developed the skill to hold the torch steady with my arm or hand not resting. Seems really hard and not sure if ill be able to  . But any way has anyone tried or knows anythying about the ihead torches? cant seem to find much info or places that sells them but it seems very simular as the torch at work. heres a link... http://www.tectorch.com/main_web/webpages/ihead.htmI am not sure if i should get a water cooled or an air/gas cooled torch. I see that some torches have a gas valve on the torch, what is that for? Would an aircooled torch get that hot on a 200 amp unit? I would probably mostly welding 1/8 think metal and under. Not saying i wont weld thinker but mostly thiner stuff so i am not sure if a water cooled torch is needed. It seems that most people have weldcraft torches, is there a reason for that? How about the CK torches? I think they have the Gas Saverglass cup that is supposed to flow the gas better. Is that true, what is everones opinion on this?sorry for all the questions just want to make the right decision the first time. Thanks Troy
Reply:Just use the standard air torch, unless you're doing lots of work at high load.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:We use nothing but CK at work, They make some nice products that come in both air cooled or gas cooled, yes they have both the flexible head torch that you can bend the torch to the desired angle ( but only so many times)http://www.ckworldwide.com/standard.htm They also have the flex loc torch that swivels 360 degrees to get into tight places, I use this torch almost everydayhttp://www.ckworldwide.com/flex-loc.htmThe gas saver kits are nice as well, they give you better coverage than a standard set up, I use the large one at the bottom of link all the time for welding titanium on the benchhttp://www.ckworldwide.com/gas_saver.htmWe also had them custom make us a very large purge chamber, it is very big and was custom made for a few jobs we did many years ago, its nice but takes forever to purge, seeing we don't do those particular items anymore, we just use a rigid chamber we built out of aluminum that is smaller and purges quickly. although i think their standard size flexible chamber purges pretty quickhttp://www.ckworldwide.com/purge_chamber.htmSome of you may notice I seem to plug CK when ever these questions come up, No I do not work there, they are however local to me and I have toured their plant, I order the supplies for our shop where I work and buy nothing but CK Tig accessories, If and when I get a Tig welder for home I will do the same, however i only have the MM 175 Mig for home use at this time

Reply:What does limited amount of time mean? after bending the torch too much is the head gonna fall off
Reply:Originally Posted by MustangousAlso what is that gas valve for? is that like another control besides the regulator at the tank?

Reply:get a watercooled WP-30 Weldcraft torch and call it a dayif your not getting into impossible angle stuff where your welding with mirrors then who needs it? ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:arc-zone caries flex head torches.http://www.arc-zone.com/catalog/web_...=6892375_53099it seems like they carie gas savers too but i got mine off e-bay for a realy good price, ill see if i can find a link to the guy that had them. i would shoot arc-zone an e-mail or call them and ask for what you want and see what they have. they are great people to deal with, fast and curtieous. i have used them several times with great results.as for water cooled or not only you can make that choice. some do some dont. i will be going water cooled but mostly just because i want to build one.  how much you use it and what you are comfortable with will be the answer. i use a CK torch because its what came with my welder but the weldcraft are real nice also and CK can be dificult to find a dealer for it depends on where you are. eather way the parts are interchangeable.the dyn200 is a realy nice welder you will realy like it. i was saving for it once and just couldnt swing the $$ had to go with the TA-185 so now the closest i get to them is when i make a custome cover for one.  then i get to go try it out on the welder. if i get the $$ togather i will be taking a TIG class on them though, that will be fun. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:What happens if i run a torch rated for 150 Amps at 200 amps? Would it just be hotter? The reason i ask is because i have the ck-17 torch now and i looked it up and it is only rated for 150 amps. Thanks for all the replies....Troy
Reply:i don't know what welder you have but as you are saying 200 amps I'll take that as max Amps for the welder. the torch is rated for 150amps at 100% duty cycle, your welder is probably only rated at 120amps 100% duty cycle. just as you welder will go over 120amps but only for a limited amount of time the same goes for the torch. so with a 150amp torch it will go to 200 amps just at a 60% duty cycle. if you have the dyn200 the torch is rated for more than the welder. look at the duty cycle of your welder and it will tell you what the duty cycle for it is. at its 100% duty cycle it will run all day non stop but as the duty cycle goes down the welder will have to stop and rest between welds. the same is true for the torch.i hope that all made sense. I'll look up the duty cycle on the dyn to try to get you a better example. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:the ratings for the dyn200TIG Rated Output200 A at 18 V, 20% Duty Cycle 150 A at 16 V, 60% Duty Cycle 140 A at 15.6 V, 40% Duty Cycle 100 A at 14 V, 100% Duty Cycleas you can see the dyn is only rated for 60% duty cycle at 150 amps, the 17 series torch is rated for 100% at 150 amps. all tig torches are rated at 100% wile welders are rated at there max output and then they tell you the duty cycle later in the fine print so to speak.LOLif welding company's did the same as torches no one would spend $3000.00 for a 100 amp welder right but the dyn200 is only rated for 100amps at 100% duty cycle, yet it will go to 200 amps at 20% duty cycle so they sell you a 200amp welder for $3000.00 even though at 200amps you can only weld for 2 minutes out of 10 minutes. or weld 2 wait 8 then weld 2 wait 8. well i hope that cleared it all up for ya, the short answer is you have the right torch. so play away. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:check with arc-zone.com they sell flex heads for weldcraft and the 2 are interchangable. they sell parts for almost anything welding accesory related, no welders just the stuff ya need to make them work. real nice people over there. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:I use a mirror quite often as well. On of my favorite jobs ( not) is crawling down the tailpipe of a JT8 ( aircraft engine) and welding the leading edges of the cracked out exhaust struts, cant even see the cracks unless you tape a mirror up behind them. Have to run the foot pedel like a thigh master and use the ck 360 swivel torch. also cant wear a hood as there is not enough room, so I cake my face with sunblock and put a #10 lens in the O/A goggles
