I have a Lincoln 110 mig. I am just a hobbiest, playing around in my garage and will fix some small things for friends on occasion. I bought a Lincoln AD helmet off of Craigs List a while back but it is fixed at 11. The 11 seems way too dark, I can't really see the pool only the arc. I was at my LWS and they sell Miller. I like this shop, they have been more than helpful in my learning curve. I was thinking about the Lincoln AD (Home Depot or Lowes), adjustable or the Miller Pro Hobby at my LWS. Both are within $20 of each other. What are your thoughts/opinions of either? Thought I'd ask before I buy one. Thanks
Reply:Ask your LWS if he has a welder set up so you can "test drive" the Miller. Try them both on, etc. and see which one is the most comfortable, best view and so on, then pick the one that you like best.
Reply:Personally if the difference is so small I would tend to go to the LWS.  We need to support the LWS at every opportunity or it will be gone and we will have to wait several days for our orders to arrive from the internet.  I buy from both, but when the diff is small or I need it now I always try to give the LWS the chance.  We used to have three competing LWS in my town and due to the internet we are now down to one who is an affiate of one of the mega players and prices as well as service have suffered.  Just my .02BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:i like my miller pro-hobbyi visited several LWS shops when i was looking for a new AD hood.i'm glad i did try on several hoods before i bought anything. unfortunately all the LWS shops couldnt,(or wouldnt) even come close to the available prices off the web. i was willing to spend a little more and support them, but no way i'm gonna shell out another $75 + tax on a hood.            I'm a legend in my spare time
Reply:One thing I would definitely look for in my next helmet is 4 sensors rather than 2.  This weekend I got flashed a few times because I was welding behind a cross member that blocked both sensors.Hobart LX235Victor 250 Oxy-Acetylene Rig (welding and cutting)Bobcat 773F-350, 1999, 4x4, 16' 10K# trailerOutdoor Wood Burner - 10 cords/year
Reply:Whatever you get make sure you can easily purchase clear lens for it.  Around here you can easily find a Lincoln AD helmet but you can't find a clear lens to save your soul.Just a thoughtGordie -- "I believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
Reply:He's right!I'd go with the Miller.I have a Pro Hobby and I like it.It performs well and has never let me down.My dislike is the fact that changing the lenses is a pain in the ***.You have to yank on the outer frame to get it to release and can be a knuckle buster.I wanna step up to at least the Elite Series because of the push-button release.Measure twice, cut once.Millermatic 211Millermatic 251Miller Dynasty 200DXESAB O/A Set-up
