I'm using a Lincoln 220v MIG welder. I'm practicing my spot welding skills for some floor pan replacements I'm doing in my 68 Camaro. I have no clue what they should look like, so I thought I'd ask you guys. Do these look good? The holes are 3/16 diameter. Thanks!
Reply:1/4" may be better and make sure the two panels are tight together.Go around the hole then to the center.have funTom
Reply:Good to know I used the correct tecnique, I did in fact start around the edge and then move to the middle. Two of the welds had a gap in between the metal which caused a few small holes in the edge of the weld. I will try and get them tighter when I begin again. Thanks!
Reply:The welds should look like little buttons with symmetry, sitting quite proud. After you make the spot weld, quickly normalize with body hammer after forming by on dolly working to flatten the crown, this should also control your warpage, stop when the weld has cooled, it doesn't take much so don't overdue it. |
