Reply:Aha, Warn winches. We use 230V types to haul submersible pumps, mixers and props from sewage treatment plants and pumping stations on portable 'cranes'. Very tough little critters.

Reply:the guy I made it for wanted to mount it in his hitch on his pickup, and he also wanted to use it as a portable like hooking it to a tree. then he wanted a plate so it wouldn't sit in the mud before it got some tension(after thought), he wanted to keep it as light as posible the reason for the aluminum( kind of pointless when you also have to lug around a 12 volt battery) but thats what I came up with. I'm going to make one more square receiver to mount it to a yard arm. the gun is just an old bb gun I was trying to fix.

Reply:he originally wanted to unbolt the winch from the hitch mount and then bolt it to some kinda hook for portable use, then I came up with the receiver tube, his way was to much work for me.
