I hope this is the right place to ask this. I'm a newbie, pinger. I have a question concerning a steel table. I have one that I bought, but it is not the typical thick table top. Can I sill use it, or does it have to be the thick table top kind?
Reply:What exactly are you using it for? Welding fab work? The thickness of the top doesnt really have a huge effect on quality. If you grind into it too much you can always fix it. =)
Reply:Nothing real big. Finish work on exhaust pipe, and other small stuff. Especially since I am a beginner. I asked because I noticed that duaneb55 is making a huge (to me) steel table.O/A Set-Up Radnor Gauges WH26FC  Welding Torch CA25       Cutting Attachment 0 TipThat is it for now...More to come later...
Reply:What thickness would you say it is now? If its less than 1/8" I would just be careful of welding too much at one time on it. The tables get hot too. lol Other than that I wouldn't see any problem with it until you want to work on a much larger project.
Reply:Nice f-body, thanks for the help. The table is 3/16" thick, but I won't be welding on it for long periods of time.O/A Set-Up Radnor Gauges WH26FC  Welding Torch CA25       Cutting Attachment 0 TipThat is it for now...More to come later...
Reply:Thanks man. If you click my sig pic it will take you to my fquick site. Goodluck on your future projects.
Reply:It will probably do you fine. But as you get more serious a thicker and larger table will work better, especially when doing projects where building in a flat plane is desirable. My table is 5'x10' and 1" thick. When you build on it things stay flat.
