gas powered welder/gen. for $850?

i have been roughly looking for a gas powered unit for a couple months now and was finally given a budget from the finance dept. (ya, you know who).  i realize this isn't much to work with, but is what i have to work with.  i need a 50/50 mix of welder and gen.  i had been looking at the rangers and bobcats/wildcat.  obviously these are out of my price range new.  can an older ranger 8 or 9 be had for this money?  or a smilar miller?  i want to have atleast one 120/240 30 amp outlet, ac/dc would be nice but i know that for the money beggars can't be choosers.  i know this aint much to work with but help me out.  advice and leads for a machine near central wv would be appriciated.  thanks in advance.

Reply:started looking on fleabay to get some comparitive prices.  i knda liked the looks of the weldenpower 225's.  there was a few in my price range. i liked the 100% duty cycle and the wattage on the generator.  i'm not familiar with these machines.  are they any good?  thanks.

Reply:there was a 225 g7 that really looked like it would fit the bill.  i just cant seem to bring my self to pull the trigger on something like this off of ebay.  i've been checking the local add pads and craigs list locally. nothing yet.

Reply:I'm with the rest...Craigslist,but don't just look in your area....stretch out to the surrounding areas when looking...also search it often...the really good deals get snatched up quick.I bought a Lincwelder 225 w/Onan engine in super condition(always kept inside) last month for $300 because the two batteries were dead.....After much charging they are alive again... Use them or loose them I guess.I saw it listed just after he placed the ad ....first one to contact him... I just told him if it starts and welds consider it sold and where are you so I can bring the $$$$ and pick it up...The Lincwelder probably doesn't have the generator output you're looking for. Duane has the right idea about a Weldanpower or maybe an older Miller unit. I've seen several for sale under your price ceiling. You might consider placing "Wanted" ads in town papers around your area too.... Someone might have one in the shop/barn and just hadn't thought about it for a while.Good Luck
Reply:never thought about the rental shops.  i may look into that this weekend.  i started expandign my searches on craigslist last night. i think therre out there, i just need to find one.    i really likek the the looks of the weldenpower or ranger 8/9.  does miller have something similar?  in case something pops up?  thanks
Reply:Paid 650 for mine, theres another one for sale on CL 35 mins from me, slightly newer WP, for 600, if the Wife wasnt done teachin for the summer, Id jump on it tomorrow... Ive seen several WP on eBay, none have raised my eye-brow. Reply:i looked at that one, mudbugone.  the part that worried me about that machine was the lack of air cleaner.  i'm  not sure what an air cleaner would cost for one of those, but if the owner won't put an air cleaner on, how well did he keep up with other maintenance?    i realize that i may be searching for a diamond in a goats ***, but i just need to find the right goat
