Reply:48' ladder to get a lift they,d have to get a large crane to landit where i am.
Reply:That is so cool to see other people at there job and see what thay do!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
Reply:Out of 10 welders i,m the only one that will go up that ladder and weld those connections some of them won,t even try.
Reply:I'd be in the same boat. I don't mind heights as long as both my feet are on the ground...Mike
Reply:good for you,i used to a company that did roof reapirs and put in vents ,i was the only one that would walk and not slide a round on his ***ChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:you would make a good pile buttmaking repairs, hell even climbing leads, isnt everybodys thing. Humping 200 feet of leads up 80 feet to air arc out a crack then weld it up, covered in grease, swaying up down left and right, and trying to put in a decent weld. Its hard enough trying to get comftorable doing every day welding, even harder on a positioning lanyard. Its not for everyone, but i love doing it haha
Reply:I want to know where you got a torch and gas hose that long........

Reply:The torch is feed out of the soffit. My partner usally is footing my ladder but he was taking pics. The machine is also in the soffit we feed it out before going outside to make the last weld at the bottom of the reducer.

Reply:Originally Posted by duaneb55OK, that makes sense. I figurfed if it was fed down from the roof above it just wasn't all buttoned up up there yet. Well at least I was partially right the first time. I take it that's also how you tied off too - through the soffit. So what's at the bottom of the ladder to the right?

Reply:I had some fun yesterday welding a canopy ring back on the top of a 53' trailer. I was up on the ladder, and my helper was working my pedal on the ground. Everone was watching, and laughing their arses off!! I was stretched out, going " Ok, pedal. More pedal. Okay, hold...less....that's good. Wait, down, stop. Okay, pedal up...more, more, hold..." We looked like circus clowns!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Laying down on the job with an umbrella no less. I suppose that makes up for those days on the ladder.A butterfly without wings, is just an ugly bugPretty funny, when the stereo is bigger than the welder. Nice lookin welds.

Reply:You TIGGED a Roof?!?!Man-o-man that's a LOT of weld length!More seriously, why? Why TIG the roof panels together, and why TIG instead of a 'faster' welding process like MIG?Getting the supplies and tools up to and on the roof:- big boombox, check- rolling toolbox, check- big insulated lunch box/bag/cooler, check- itty-bitty inverter TIG welder, check Where's the argon cylinder hiding? You had no problems just laying the workclamp onto the stainless sheet for the 'ground'? With it right behind you like in that one picture, I'd think your foot would have kicked it at least a couple of times and interrupted the arc. You didn't have to even put a little weight on top of the workclamp, like maybe underneath your edge-warning flag stanchion baseplate, just left it laying right on the sheetmetal? The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:oh my god haha and I thought I was being brave by getting up 2 stories high on a ladder to hang christmas lights yesterday...insane! thanks for sharing Melting steel in to a molten form and fusing it together... What could be more badass than that? Honestly.
Reply:The roof was tigged because thats what the enginners and the roofing manufacture wanted. They have to hold a 20yr warranty. That Co. is Bemo roofing you can check out there web site if your intrested they have photos of the orginal job when we built this building in 2003.It is the Boston Convention&Exposition Center. This whole undertaking came about because of undersized drains and a lawsuit which the building owners got 24million back for design flaws. That can be read about at boston.com search roof problems boston convention center. The argon bottle is in the building on the catwalk,if your refering to the pic on the 40' ladder moonrise.Any other question i,ll try to answer best i can.Trust me guys i tried to get this job migged they weren,t having it.But i took almost 50k out of there in 7 mos.so i don,t mind.
Reply:A few years ago I replaced all the camera houses that are around the horse racing track at Penn National Race Track. There are 4 of them, one on each corner. On turn 4 the frame work that holds the house is 75' at the base of the house. I requested a 100' cherry picker. They could only get me a 80' model. Windy that day. Crane operator almost didn't want to do the lift. I had to position the cherry picker, raise the platform all the way, and allow the wind to blow the basket against the frame work to steady it. I still couldn't reach the back side properly, so I had to stand on the rails (with my lanyard of course).Ain't nothin' like swingin' in the breeze in a cherry picker fully extended. Shrinks hemorroids real good. |
