Is the aluminum Home Depot sell weldable? I don't know how to tell what types of al isn't weldable. And before anyone chimes in "just weld it to find out"........ I can't even stick two pieces together yet-Thanks
Reply:I know what your saying. I bought some ally from ACE hardware and it welded fine. For what it's worth I will take a chance and say yes. Basically only 20-00 and 70-00 series are not weldable. These are the grades we use in building jets. I would almost guarantee Home Depot is not selling those alloys of aluminum. I would buy it and give it shot. I'm a rookie welder and it just take s practice. I have actually made a few aluminum projects that I wouldn't brag about but I'm not ashamed of them either. For what's it's worth snoboy
Reply:I have done quite a bit of Homey Despot alu...it weld just fine.
Reply:I know the angle is 6061. It is on the sticker. Here is the angle welede to the plate for my MSD set up. Welds pretty good actually.T.J.
Reply:Aluminum from those types of stores is marked up about 5X what a normal distributor would sell for. I you can avoid them, do.Bill
Reply:Actually, I found it only to be triple. I only get it when desparate....or when I don't want a bunch leftover.
Reply:TJS - what car will that unit be going on? Find alum. at another place, typically Ace, Home De-pot and Lowe-rs have double and triple std. pricing.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Thanks for the input. I bought a stick of angle tonight and it worked pretty good.I'll definately be buying from my local metal supply. HD is pricey!!!
Reply:The vast magority of angles, extrusions and flat bar is 6063,6061 and 6060 all weld well. Some sheet is 5000 series and still welds well
