I know this is a broad question, but what do you think of the Radnor brand of consumables from Airgas. Their prices are good on MIG and Plasma consumables, but am wondering how the quality is.
Reply:I have never tried them, but I have only heard bad things about them. Do a search here and you will see."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:Dont know about TIG, but we just finished a boiler job last week, I left 10lbs of their 7018 in the corner of the boiler room. No thanks. 6010 was hit and miss, no worse than old 5P....Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120
Reply:We had good results with their TIG consumables in a student environment, and their cutting torch tips worked well, except when used as a hammer...No need to buy their stick rod. I'd rather use 5P, and we did. Used various Washington Alloy (Airgas house brand like Radnor) hard and flux-core wire. Nothing noteworthy. We used a shiiteload of their Tweco-style MIG consumables, and didn't have any problems caused by the tips or anything else. I maintained the consumables and MIG guns and would have noticed any problems or excessive usage.I like Radnor 6" cutting discs a lot. As much as Pferd, and Pferd are good.We didn't try plasma consumables. Our ESABs ran fine on factory parts so there was no need to change what worked.
Reply:As far as tig consumables, the collets are not good and made from soft copper, which collapse after a while. I only ask for high performance collets now, which are domestically made. Tectorch and Weldcraft makes them. CK makes a good wedge collet.
Reply:i replaced the m25 gun that came on my mm252 (after using the stiff pos for an hour) with a radnor pro 250 and have nothing but good to say about it. i use radnor products of all kinds and have had no abnormal problems with any of it. my air gas dealer keeps me posted on what is good and bad though. if he says don't buy a particular radnor product because he has got bad reports on it i don't buy it. wish i could say the same for the locally owned weld supplier. their guys are self proclaimed experts and if you don't let them sell you what they think or want you to have at a huge markup they treat you like crap.225NT bobcatAEAD200LEScott 125mm175, mm252 w 30A, PT225mm211, TA 181iHyper Therm 380, cut master 529100X & XX, Digital Elite6 Victor setssmith little torch, meco midget kalamazoo band sawsteel max saw evoulution circular saw
Reply:Ive heard that the stick electrodes run like crap in general, but Id kind of like to hear a little bit more about them. My airgas dealer pushes them pretty hard, and they are cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:There is no guarantee of consistency, no accountability, no responsibility, little to no oversight or Q.C.in generic branded stuff. Often it will be made by various parties--whoever's the cheapest. Some of it will be okay, some won't. Sometimes runs good, sometimes not. It's made to a price, period.Name branded stuff-even if made offshore, has standards, traceability, QC, and will be backed up by the brander.I'm too desperately poor to afford cheap consumables-that have, can, and will cost me multiplesof the small change I'm "saving". I can't afford to gamble on whether a generic consumable will work this time or not.I'm astounded by these rich guys that are saving pennies with generics, while dollars fly out the window. [FWIW-I gave Airgas a written description of the wire problem, heat and lot number, etc.--never got any acknowledgment of this. New Age management--'If you don't admit to any problems--You don't have any problems'At my request-after 2 months, Airgas local store credited my account back for the bum wire.]Blackbird
Reply:That's about what I figured. Our local Airgas has the complete line. Considering how cheap this line is, I figured it was too good to be true.
Reply:I just hate Airgas period.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:The collets etc are cheap enough to treat like toilet paper. After all, they are "consumable". Like any collet, don't overtighten the cap and they do reasonably. My local Airgas is good, but I do my own research (no small amount of it here!) and just buy stuff from them. They treated me as well when I was a noob as they did when I was buying in bulk from my workplace. The management and personnel WILL vary between stores, but that's anywhere.Ive heard that the stick electrodes run like crap in general, but Id kind of like to hear a little bit more about them. My airgas dealer pushes them pretty hard, and they are cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for.
Reply:The bulk of the Radnor branded items come from well known manufacturers, packaged for Airgas. I use the abrasives (Norton makes the grinding wheels) and they hold up just as good as anything name brand from the commercial hardware joint. Wire and torch parts I usually get from IOC or now Arc Zone depending on what it is.

Reply:Radnor is mostly Chinese junk. The guys at my local airgas are hesitant to answer when i ask where the stuff is made. It's cheap, but not inexpensive. I avoid it, if possible. But that's all they have for tig parts anymore. I bought a wp-20 that was radnor, but obviously a re-branded weldcraft, that has worked fine, but their collets and cups are crap. I suspect that the people behind radnor, are the same people responsible for tillman gloves going to china.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:Lincoln bought Radnor but that doesn't mean much other than just that. Doen't mean that instantly all Radnor products are made by Lincoln."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
