craigslist argon bottle

Got a question about buying an argon bottle from craigslist. Guy bought it used along with his machine. He's giving me a really good deal on just the bottle. Can I take it to air gas or Wesco and have it refilled/exchanged without any issues

Reply:I bought 3 owned ones from CL and take them all to wesco in pensacola. They don't care where it's from and will exchange it. They have great prices too on gas
Reply:Ok cool. I live in pensacola. I just wanted to make sure before I bought it. Wesco is who I wanted to use they seem a bit cheeper in price than air gas
Reply:Got one more question, since I've never owned a bottle do you need to prove any kind of ownership of the bottle. Or just swap it out and good to go?
Reply:Ive never had issue when exchanging bottles. If this bottle was acquired illegally, the original owner (airgass or whom ever) will have settled the matter civilly most likely by sending the original renter of the bottle to collections over the cost of it.UA Local 598
Reply:Just go in and tell them you have a __CF tank that you need exchanged for (whatever gas you need). No papers or anything. I don't think they will give it much thought. One of my tanks is out of hydro by like 12 years and they don't care and said they will just exchange it. Good group of guys in the office. Their prices for TIG filler are also great if you need any of that stuff while you're in there. unfortunately for me they are 30 or so mins away so I make every trip there count

Reply:Hey guys thanks. Yes its a smaller cylinder. I just wanted to make sure cause I don't wanna waste my money and have a tank taken away from me. Just wanted to do a little asking before actually purchasing the tank. Thanks for the help guys

Reply:In 30+ years of welding, I have never even been asked if I was the owner of a tank or had to prove it. My bottles were purchased in three different states from three different companies and nothing was said when I had them filled. I'm not even sure if I could produce the receipt if asked.Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:I just bought a few bottles from one of my old employers.  I had the same concern so I made sure I got a bill of sale for them.  They were purchased by that company for me when I was working for them, so I was the one who ordered them.  I just take them back to the gas supplier that they bought the bottles from, and no problems so far.  Whenever I buy a bottle from anybody though, or anything for that matter, I make sure to get a bill of sale.  Not sure if it matters or not if one turns out to be stolen or whatever but at least I feel like I am covered.  And I always keep my receipts  when I buy a bottle from a distributor.
