Guys,I found this forum several weeks ago and must say I have been incredibly impressed by what I have seen - truly a respectful, friendly, fun-loving, helpful group of folks!Having always wanted to know how to weld (my uncle was an Air Force welding instructor in WWII - guess it is in my blood - I plan to make a post under "Old Welding Pics" about this), my wife gave me a welder (Lincoln ProCore 125) for my birthday last year. After months of experimenting, I finally began to get the hang of things. For my first "real" project I used 1" square tubing (14 ga) to make a skeleton frames for a couple of light boxes (did not think to take pics at the time.) Anyway, I had a lot of material left over (over bought on purpose and then changed the design mid stream), so my 7 year old son and I dreamed up a use for the leftovers. The end result (well, still a little work to do) is attached. We call it the "EdCopter v1.0". The rotor blades are swimming noodles, the motors are from an old computer tape drive (I am a computer programmer by day), and the caution light is from HF. I did not take close ups, b/c the welds are not worthy of that just yet! But never the less, we had a ton of fun building it and are already dreaming up v2.0.Any way, maybe this will bring a chuckle to some of y'all!Joe Attached Images

Reply:As my sons used to say - ssswwweeeettttt With luck your son will catch the welding bug and develop a rewarding hobby. I did this with my sons hoping they would spend less time playing on the computer. I was at least partically successful Welcome to the Forum!

My only regret in my 56 years is I didn't slow down enough to teach the boys my mechanical and welding skills while they were at home (to busy working----"no excuse") as Now I know that "they" were the reason I was working so hard! Reply:Thank you for all of the kind replies.As for being a "pro" by the age of ten, I would not doubt it - he loves to tinker in the garage with me (and I love it too!).Unfortunately there are no children on our block (and the street is way to busy for him to wander), but as kids visit him I am sure it will be a hit with them too.Thanks again,Joep.s.
