I too own a Speedglas 9002X helmet and love it, pitched my marbled piece of feces Miller in the trash. However, I recently discovered a problem with the helmet itself, not the lense, and 3M is willing to warranty the helmet for folks that have the same problem. I noticed early on the helmet wouldn't stay up when I raised it to the up position. I retightened the thumb screws on both sides and that helped for a little bit, but after you've raised and lowered it several times, it gets to where it won't stay up on its own. I disassembled it, thinking it had gunk in the friction assembly, and after a thorough cleaning, no good. I contacted Cliff Fry at 3M's customer service and explained the problem. He tells me he's had 3 customers complain of the same issue recently and 3M has been looking closely at the helmet design. Seems they've discovered the two bolts that attach the headband to the helmet have a defect, and 3M isn't quite sure how to fix it yet. He assured me once they knew how he would make sure the callers were taken care of. So, if you start having trouble with your Speedglas not staying up, give Cliff a call and get on the list. It's an expensive lid to not enjoy it. Ronnie LyonsMeridian, ID
Reply:It's an expensive lid, but the headgear ain't.  If any part of your hood is worn, just get a replacement hood (minus the AD filter) here:http://www.weldingsupply.comThe part number is 04-0012-00 and costs $40.They also have adjustable headbands, hoods with side windows for $15 more, lens covers, sweatbands and all that other stuff.-Heath
Reply:I've noticed at work it 's kinda hit and miss even with replacment headgears.    Thanks Ronnie this is good to know!!
Reply:I've had mine for a 2 years and it's never stayed up! But since it's auto darkening i've gotten use to it! haha    It is a pain though!!!!!!!
Reply:I had the same problem with mine. I went to the shop I bought it from and they called the company. They couldnt order me just the piece that was broken. They wanted to sell me a new headgear. I ended up using a piece from a different head gear and modifying it. It still doesnt stay up very good. I think I will order a new shell. It's only about $45 and it will be all shiney and new. Maybe then I will use it sometimes.
Reply:Mine stays up, I just have to retighten the nut on the right side almost every time to keep it up.
Reply:mine has never stayed up either.

I was under a ford pickup the other day trying to bend myself around under there so i could see the rotted oil pan i was patchin. Every two seconds I would move trying to get comftorble and I would flash myself.I love the shield it's the only one i use anymore but four three hundred bucks or what ever i paid for it i realy dont wont the feeling of sand in my eyes at night. That's when you need your sunglasses at night
