Reply:That's a nice drawing for a brake. But it only works to bend metal in the vertical position. Can you post a drawing for a brake that bends metal laying in the horizontal position? hahahaahNice plan. Reply:Thanks. I'll be putting one together this weekend.
Reply:Great little project! Nice plan!I didn't use your plan, I built mine over the weekend before I saw your drawing, but I used your concept. Thanks for the great idea! Mine is 24" tall x 20" wide with 16" between the uprights and a 6-Ton jack. I can slide 1 1/2 flat bar through it lengthwise so I can bend to any desired angle up to 90° as well as bending cross-wise. I haven't fab'd the dies yet, that's comming. Photo from phone camera is a bit fuzzy but you get the idea.Crossbeams and anvil: 1.5 x 2.5 x .188 rect tubeUprights: 2 x 2 x 3/16 angle (qty 4)Fasteners: 3/8" grade 8 cap screwsAnvil support pins: 5/8" Grade 8 cap screwsNo, it isn't all welded, I bolted this frame together to permit easy mods later on. (I had lots of fun with the drill press!) The jack is on a 1/4" plate with 1/8" rails, I use a slice off a 1 1/4" pipe nipple to center the top of the jack piston. Those components are all welded, as will be the dies.(BTW: you don't see any gas jugs in these pics. ) Attached ImagesMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
