Saw this pipe coming out of the hospital

I went to the hospital today to get my ears checked out (dizzy, off balance, everything turned out fine). On the way out, I noticed this pipe. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what it might be.It appeared to be very thick wall pipe, and it had a huge flange on it.Sorry for the blurry pic. It's right above a street that goes to the back (low traffic volume)EDIT: I have no idea why the image is sideways, it is the right way up on my computer and phone. Attached Images
Reply:With the ventilation openings I see on the wall, that is most likely the backup power generator room. It'll be something along the lines of a large Cat diesel generator. Reply:I'm guessing it's the exhaust stack for their emergency gen set. Those look like ventilation loovers behind it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Think the other guys nailed it.   Look to the right of the door, there is a electrical box like the ones I see at work near our generators.

Reply:If that's at Mercy in Portland, it's probably the generator exhaust like many have said.  My dad used to work down there back in the 90s, I think they have something along the lines of a 1000kW cat or cummins.
