The fact is that this kind of thing (welding on a pressure vessel by someone who shouldn't) probably happens a lot more often than is posted here. What ever happened to Natural Selection?E

Reply:That's not what's being said at all Kelvin.  Pressure vessels get welded on every day by qualified weldors using proper procedures so it's more a matter of where on the vessel and how.  After all, it's welded to begin with. However, the issue here is, the advertized portable compressor tank "Has a tiny pin hole leak on the bottom of the tank. Could be easily fixed with a welder." indicating the high probability that the vessel shell has been compromised by rust and is likely a ticking time bomb such as the one that almost took out Mike.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:2 HP Twin Cylinder.Works Great. Newer pressure switch. Has a tiny pin hole leak on the bottom of the tank. Might be time to replace it.If you have a tank you could use the pump and motor from this one and be all set.$100here is the add, doesnt say anything about repairing tank, even says it might be time to replace it..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:he updated his add. great if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat - 2 Thessalonians 3:10

Reply:should read  " has tiny pinholeleak on bottom dead nuts in the middle of a  large rusty thin area that sat under puddle for years because nitwit did not blow out tank"

Reply:I got a reply from the guy that is selling the compressor.  He was very reasonable and thanked me for informing him.  Kudos to him!

Reply:Well, I didn't mean to seem to make light of someone getting blowed up by a bad tank. That's a shame, I hadn't heard about that.I was more poking fun at the "pile on" you sometimes get on Internet forums, where everyone piles on, saying the same thing.I'm also somewhat suspicious of this whole "air compressor tanks fail catastrophically" idea. My hunch is that in 99 cases out of 100, when the tank leaks, it leaks peacefully and simply won't hold air, rather than failing explosively. It's like the idea of putting a water bed on the 2nd floor of a 130-year-old farmhouse – I doubt the floor would collapse all at once, but would rather sag pretty dramatically, rather than collapsing suddenly. There are just too many nails. In any case, there would be time, and fair warning, before anyone bled.Last edited by Kelvin; 07-14-2011 at 09:39 AM.
