planning on buying a new tig, lincoln 275 welder pack or miller sync. 250dx  pack. I know it's probably Ford v.s. Chevy type Question but  I am new to tig and would appreciate any feedback.  thanks,  Eric
Reply:Oh no, wheres that can of worms zap...Id get a arcmaster 300 if I was in the market again. Take a look at em, they are new and exciting.  And they arre more of a redbrick color.  I know the lincoln's a big 300 pounder that sorta reminds you of R2/D2 (he has the miller paint scheme though).  Ive been a lincoln fan, so youll have to wait for the miller guys to chime in on the synchrowave.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.
Reply:Just my 2 cents... I have a Miller Sync 250 DX Tig Runner system and I love it! I primarily weld aluminum and for the $$ I find that it is an excellent machine. I am very interested in trying one of those Dynasty systems made by miller... they sound like an awesome machine! But, I understand that they cost about $6000.00!  A little out of reach for me at the moment!I think you will find that both entries from Miller and Lincoln are great machines... just depends on what YOU like.Good luck and happy welding!Kell
Reply:I use a Miller Syncrowave 250 DX tig runner myself and I love it.... great machine._________________Chris
Reply:thanks for the replies, also what is the max thickness aluminum that can be welded with this size machine ? 3/8"?,1/2"?  I'll mostly be welding anodized boat towers, engine brackets and mounts, fuel tanks, etc.
Reply:It's more than a Ford/Chevy option...it's closer to Samsung/LG.  Electronics can vary a lot a lot from brand to brand.  Personally, I think Lincoln is trailing Miller...always.  There's a reason that they almost always have about 25 more amps in the machine...to help sway people that are having a hard time deciding on price/quality.  I think most people will tell you that the Millers are top quality, yet Lincoln will usually have a little better price.  So, then take the third variable (power) into consideration, and many will choose the Lincoln.Personally, I think the third variable is customer service....in which case Miller wins by far.

Reply:Originally Posted by lorenzoAnd what did you see when you looked at a Miller prior to the OCC craze? In all honesty it is pure marketing....... I own a Ranger 9/ gas engine, and a 300 amp Trailblazer with the 3cyl Kubota.... personally..... I like the Miller better hands down, and NO I don't like it more because it's BLUE . It has better arc stability, doesn't seem to lag when you strike an arc.... more efficient.... there are a lot of reasons..... The Ranger is at this point just a backup to the Miller or a generator. At the same time I use both Miller and Lincoln machines all day long in the shop, all various types and sizes, and I really don't have a preference.... I don't have a "GO TO" machine, I just use what's closest, or best for the job.

Reply:Lincoln and Miller are both top quality machines. My opinion based on a couple of years on the message boards is that Lincoln service would come in a fair ways behind Miller. Reply:It depends a lot on where you live, too.  I was raised in OK and the only engine machines you would see were Lincoln.  I've been in NC for 20 years and all you see here are Millers.  I had a Lincoln SA250 for years and loved it.  Now I've got a Miller Bobcat 250 and love it.  If I find the need to get a big diesel machine, I'll probably get a Miller, because you can get parts and service anywhere around here.  They're both good companies.  I wouldn't sweat the advertising.  DeWalt, MAC and Snap-On all sponsor NASCAR teams.  I hope that doesn't keep you from buying their tools.David
Reply:Thanks again for all the replies,I decided on the lincoln 275 package,I've owned both lincoln and miller stick and mig machines, all worked great. This is my first tig machine though so i appreciate the input from everyone. the machine should be here next week so then I can find out first hand.as for service, there is only one dealer within 120 miles of here and they service both lincoln and miller.
