i guess i wanna do a carbon arc torch deal. this is the welder that i havehttp://www.proxibid.com/asp/LotDetai...13&lid=9175626is it suitable for such a process?i understand that it has to be a transformer thing but i have no idea if it is.
Reply:That is a transformer welder.I don't know if your speaking of a twin carbon arc torch or carbon arc cutting/gouging.That little welder is probably a little low in output current and duty cycle for carbon arc cutting/gouging.Fine for twin carbon arc torch though.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:wouldnt know the difference
Reply:Carbon arc gouging is  a single carbon electrode usually run at high current. An arc is struck between the electrode and material to be cut.The arc melts the steeland there is an air jet in the electrode holder that blows molten steel out of the cut. Noisy, very impressive.A twin carbon arc torch uses two carbon electrodes. An arc is established between the two electrodes. The arc is used like the flame of a torch for heating. Not really a complete substitute for a oxy/gas torch set but handy for those of us without torches.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
