I have a marvel schelber carb on my sa-200 short hood and I got fuel coming out of the of air intake side when I turn on the fuel. Need some input. Is probably my best to tear it down and soak it carb cleaner for 24 hours and then blow out with air compressor and then throw a rebuild kit in it? The part number I got is 2-1401 napa is the the correct rebuild? I finally got the motor running at 2am this morning after rebuilding the magneto and cleaning fuel tank out (all kind of goodies in there). I noticed that on my raditor my top hose is really hot to the touch were my bottom hose it cool. So I think my thermostat is stuck and not letting coolant in cause in began to drip coolant out of the top connection (which is tight). I have not took a look at the thermostat yet but if any one has a NAPA part number for the thermostat would be very helpful. Reply:If fuel is coming out the air intake then your float is stuck down..Sometimes just a tap or 2 with the plastic end of a screwdriver will un stick it.Top hose hot and bottom cold = stuck closed thermostat.Seems like everything is stuck.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:What Zap said, although I had a problem with a Harley carb that the float wasn't stuck, but had some crud on the valve seat. Reply:Got the thermostat housing and thermostat out. Still in need of a part number for a shorthood thermostat if anybody has one it would be great help thank you
Reply:If it doesn't have it you should install a fuel shut off valve. Just shut the gas off when it is not in use, problem solved. To fix it totally just install a new needle and seat, or carb kit.
Reply:Any decent auto parts store can match the T-stat from measuring it. Flange dia and height is about all they need.

Reply:Many T-stats have a number stamped into the flange.... should have mentioned it earlier. And it's very unusual for one to stick closed... If they fail through corrosion they stick open as they're designed to remain open if the thing fails... likely just some gunk on the shaft the plunger rides on keeping it from opening. May be able to just clean it up. Of course nobody knows who stuck what in there at some point in its life.
Reply:I tried to clean up the thermostat but it looked someone had already been there and a metal piece around the plunger is broke off. I went 2 napas this morning and nobody was no help. I am going to have to do some more looking and calling to get a part number.
