I picked up a Thermal Arc 300 GMS the other day. This is similar to an XMT304, an inverter multi-process DC welder, works for stick, MIG, and TIG. Rated for 375 amps on three phase, 260 amps on single phase. I had been thinking about an XMT304. I had also been considering upgrading my 220V MIG to a Millermatic 211. I paid $500, including a 25 foot power cord, and 25 foot cables for ground and stick. The price seemed right, and a big savings over an XMT welder. I have a spoolgun that will work with it, so I can use it for MIG without spending any money. If I need to TIG with it, I would need to buy a suitable torch with a gas valve. It support lift arc for TIG, and he was pretty sure I could plug in my Miller foot pedal, although I have not checked that.This is not something that I need, but I was kind of filling in my welders by providing more power, and more portability. I just put it in the shed, figuring that I would only use it occasionally. I can probably sell it for roughly what I paid for it, so not a big risk to buy it.I am of course a tool junkie.
