So I have acquired about fifty fire extinguishers of various sizes with fifty more available.I am in the fun stage of figuring out what to do with them.Gongs are an obvious first project.Slicing them into rings presents new ideas...Anyone out there with the brilliant idea?
Reply:Get a compressor out of an old refrigerator and mount it on top of two of them (laying down) and you can make an air compressor for running airbrush stuff. Very quiet and provides enough air to keep you painting forever. I saw one at a flea market where the guy was doing T-shirts. It was all painted up by him with cool graphics. It got a lot of attention.Last edited by Bob Warner; 03-11-2009 at 06:02 PM.Reason: Speelliinngg
Reply:I have been looking for fire extinguishers and scuba tanks and out of spec welding tanks to use for a giant wind chime for a buddy's wife. They live on 10 acres and she likes the chimes.I HATE THEM LIKE ALL HELL MYSELF.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:I have access to some acetylene tanks. Can I safely cut into these things without surprises?
Reply:They aren't hollow. They have a porous material in them. SAFELY? Well you will likely get a whole can of worms for answers here. I don't know how you could absolutely say you purged all the material out of the cylinder. They have acetone in them too to stabilize the gas at 250psig. Some people suggest filling with water..... I don't think I would cut one up myself. Not unless a trained cylinder person showed me how. Besides, it sounds like a lot of work.....Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain

Reply:Older acetylene 'bottles' can have asbestos in them and if you get any around your property and someone finds out, I think you can have major cleanup problems.....What kind of extinguishers are they? I have some really old brass acid-soda that are collector's items, later brass carbon tet. types I've cut the tops of of to use for dried flowers, ...and a (steel) pressurized-water one I made a nozzle for, which I use for spraying fruit trees. |
