Walking beam seems to do the job balancing the load(well empty right now). It can be moved any direction to counteract any load condition. The eye also moves. It won't stay on the skid. It's removeable. Pull the pins, and take it off and store it.Finished up late. Still need to make a latch for the loading ramp, and a restraining bar for the torch cart. AND MOUNT THE STUPID WELDERAppologies to Cataract Man for not cleaning the weldsThe beam is the only 3/16 wall tubing on the entire thing. Rest is 11ga. Main welds on the beam(vertical plate) were 7018. Stiffeners(1" strips) were 6013(I got the better part of a 50lb box to get rid of)It's coming together finally. I hope it works out. That crashing sound you hear might not be the economy Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:That looks mighty good, Samm!!! Even w/ 11 ga , I don't think you could pack enough weight on it to break it. Good job, now go have a couple of cold ones to celebrate completion . Reply:Looks like you've thought of everything. What's your guess on loaded weight?
Reply:Samm:Nice angles and dangles. I like the walking beam, covers all load situations. Did you draw any of that, like on a CAD? Or a napkin? Or did you build as you went? 9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250

Reply:Craig--- It's mostly in the head. I don't know if that's such a good thing. I think it costs a lot of time when you run into something that you didn't think about. Drawn plans would allow you to make a "fix" before you run into trouble. When I built the front end loader for the tractor it took about 2 weeks of drawing, and redrawing, to come up with the final print. But it was really only a matter of cut and glue from there on out.As I get older, and my time is spread over other things, I tend to take shortcuts which really aren't shortcuts when you sit and think about it."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:To be honest with you, the thing I'm more concerned about is how the 3pt setup will handle the leverage as the tractor bounces. It gets pretty rough on unpaved ground.

Reply:Originally Posted by farmersammI think the tractor will handle it, the lift is rated at 4000. I just hope I designed the skid right. I reinforced the connection at the base of the floor where it meets the uprights, then added a top and bottom flange to the tubing to the point where the welder mount ends. The first time I take it over rough ground I'll probably get a really bad neck/shoulder cramp from looking back to make sure it's still there

Reply:Sam the only concern that I have is that when you load this thing down and try to lift it your lifting point may slide on you. Make sure it’s in places and secure. If it slides on you, you may have a very bad day. Just a thought I would try wood wedges or something to hold it place. Reply:Or,To keep it from sliding, drill a hole and weld a nut onto the hole and put a bolt on it to be able to tighten down the adjustment.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Hi, Samm, I thought about the sliding problem a while ago, Another solution could be to add a little weld to the top side of the thr'o pins then dress them to turn the pins into cams,or maybe just put a bend in the pins to get the same effect, Just my two pence worth !!!
