Okay, I have what seems like a stupid question, and yet.....When you are welding 1/4" mild steel, and you're welding both sides of a joint (ex. 2 pieces of angle iron cut at 45 degree angles, to make a 90 degree angle), should I use settings for 1/4" or for 1/8"?In other words, does the thickness of material that a welder is rated for at a given setting assume full penetration from one side of the material, or does it assume that you're welding on both sides of the material? This is mostly a question for mig welders. I can judge my penetration pretty well using stick, but I'm new to mig welding. Thanks.
Reply:The miller calculator is a great reference point. I would start here firsthttp://www.millerwelds.com/resources/calculators/
Reply:use the settings for 1/4 |
