Hello to all, I am currently a welding student at a Local career center. I have been getting great feedback from my instructor(s). I feel I have niche per say for welding but not as much as there making it out to be. They have made me help other students and work with others that is struggling. We are currently on spray and the settings i like to use are : IPM - 451 Volts 24.9 using 95/5 gas on a 1/2" x joint in the flat position. I have attached a pic of my plate and feed back would be great. I have a side view of the welds also they say my blending and consistency is far more advanced for someone thats never really welded before. I tried to talked to my wife about what the instructors are saying but hell thats like talking to a door knob telling it to turn on its own ! Any info would be great ThanksRussPS. the last pic looks like there is undercut.. but cant catch a undercut gauge on anything its just a bad pic. Attached Images

Reply:Hate to be negative but that don't make you a welder. You are going to have to weld other positions and processes, and make them look good as well. You have that one position, process and material learned pretty well. Move on. There aint no welding jobs out there that call for what you are showing. If there is a job that lets you weld flat, on a table, right in front of you, it wont pay enough to eat on.Nice welds. Now change position and run some more. Two turn tables and a microphone.
Reply:now lets see you do beads like that with SMAW (stick welding). MIG is easy, though it looks like you have a nice steady hand so that will help you out. if the career center has some stick machines, give it a go. try OA and TIG while you are at it..Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:Looks good man practice makes a difference you are a natural it looks like, keep at it tho, like the others said there is more to welding than just one position, there's also cutting, fit-up, grinding, leveling and all sorts of jobs you have to be proficient in the field in. Imagine you were 125 foot in the air trying to weld overhead while on a lift that moves side to side everytime u move could you duplicate those welds in the pics??? Keep at it tho bro those welds do look good

Reply:Keep it up. I left a 15 year carrer in the natural gas industry o strike out on my own as a welder just to chase my dreams. If you like it chase after it. A wife who wants you to succeed helps.
Reply:You seem to have some talent as well as pride in your work. Keep it up.Good Luck |
