I bought my first MIG welder today! I'm completely psyched. While it is an old one, it is way more powerful than any newer one I could afford, and will do everything and more than I need it to do. It seems like it will let me do near industrial level work, I mean, it's got a duty cycle of 60% at 200 amps. If I remember right, that's rivaling the modern welders like the Hobart 190, or the Millermatic 210. Except those are 1200 dollars, and mine was 650, with gas bottle. Of course, those new welders are a whole lot lighter, but who cares? It is an old, but in fairly good shape, Hobart Beta-Mig 200. It's a big old monster, and took several people to load and unload it. It came with a 3 foot tall gas canister(not a lease, or anything, I actually own it). It has a Tweco gun, and 3 power taps, for high, low, and "noodle" welding. I did quite a bit of research on this thing before i bought it, and I found very few negative opinions about it. I got to run a short bead with it, and it seemed to weld good.Any more opinions, or advice on my new ownership of this thing?Oh, and by "old" I'm guessing mid 80s, which isnt nearly as old as my arc welder, but in terms of MIG welding, it's pretty old.
Reply:by terms of mig welders, its still built to last and u will get alot of good use out of it without many problems. I still have a Airco from the late 60's i dont care what ya say its all in all a kick *** machine. Welds stainless better then any other welder out there imo.I forgot how to change this.
Reply:awesome buy you will enjoy it .i have a pre-Lincoln century wire feed so you know that that means heavy and large transforms and no solid states in it . that puts out 31OCV and 70ADC with a 20% duty cycle and it fn rocksLincoln Power Arc 4000 Thermal Arc Fabricator 252 iThermal arc 186Thermal Arc 26 tigTweeko 200 amp spool gunHobart AirForce 400WP-17V-12R

Reply:sadly, I cant give you guys any pictures, because it went straight from the seller to storage, until I can make a place for it. It looks just like this one though: http://www.proxibid.com/AuctionImage...l/DSC00476.jpgIt doesn't have any prefixes or suffixes, so I'm guessing it is one of the most basic of the many models, but it seems to have everything I need. Will these things take a spool gun? I think they will, but what kind would it be? What kind of metal thicknesses will this thing weld? I'm more interested in thin sheet metal, as i have an arc welder for thick stuff, but I'm guessing it will do up to at least 1/4 inch steel, or maybe even 3/8 inch. How about aluminum? I've always wanted to teach myself aluminum welding, if this thing is spool gun compatible, obviously, it will work for aluminum, but how well?
