Here's the first thread on the bumper http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=25360  I figured it could use a little more attitude DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:That looks good.  Be cool with the extra driving lights mounted (I see the shadow of mounting tabs)Best thing about it, it's gonna keep the drunks from sittin' on the hood and puttin' dents in itThe guy did a pretty good job on the body where you had the accident.  Hood's only a little off.  That ain't bad Attached Images"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Curious if yours is still set up for airbags?? I looked into build a few bumpers but found out some requirements you have to meet for insurance and dot and said no thanks.
Reply:fog lights, low profile (as in rectangular) in the bull bar.  Either that or swap out the extra large lights in the bumper for fogs & put the driving lights in the bull bar.Stay away from KC Highlights, as they are overpriced in my opinion.  I have had good luck with simple 55W fog lights from Walmart/K-Mart other discount stores.  Just by a relay to run them & switch the relay.  I added some to my Dodge Ram that make it look factory for about $85.00.  These fit into the bumper in cut outs that were already there.  I have them focused pretty close to the driver so they don't blind the oncoming traffic & they really help with driving in the desert at night.  Can see all the beady eyes of the critters out there.$100 would get you some pretty high powered fog/driving lights.  Probably close to 100 watters.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:Screw the ins. and DOT, I don't think they're going to stop me and check to see if my bags still work.  As far as building them commercially, I'm sure there are specs that you have to stick to but not for myself DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:The core support for the radiator is bent, and pulling the left fender in. That's what makes the hood look like it's not correct on that side. Can't tell any thing more from the pics. But That bumper is one tough looking piece of work! If you had that when the collision happened your truck would have only had a dinged bumper for sure! Reply:Nice bumper Fuzz!I talked to an engineer for Jeep about the bumper/airbag issue ('cause I build custom off road rigs for a living)  The main problem with heavy duty bumpers is that they do not crumple as easy as the factory bumper and therefore can activate the airbags at a slower speed.  Your airbags will still work.

Reply:Pretty nice front bumper Dewayne.  The textured bedliner spray looks nice in the picture.  Does it look OK in real life too?re: aux lights.  I was going to say Hella, but I see you already have them.    The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Duplicolor's spray on bed liner looks nice, but I've been dissappointed with it's toughness.  It looks like the urethane-based "rhino" liner coatings.  But it scrapes off just like regular old paint.I used it to paint a bottle rack.  Started with new steel.  Cleaned it with acetone.  Sprayed a coat of self etching primer.  Next day I coated with the rattlecan version of the Duplicolor bedliner spray.  Looked real nice.  Couple days later I installed in my truck and loaded some bottles into the rack.  Paint came right off as the bottles went in.Maybe the roll on version is better, but the spray can version is just for looks.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:I've seen the rattlecan version and I wasn't impressed at all.  The spray and roll on should be a little tougher.  I'm not sure how it's going to hold up, I'm hoping for the best but I have my doubts.  The Duplicolor is a type of vinyl but the rhino is urethane.  I seen the Herculiner at Autozone and it's a urethane based liner and it's suppose to be more like the rhino liner.  It's more expensive but it might be worth it.  The can of Herculiner only listed roll on as the application method but I think I saw on their website that you could get some to spray on.  I'll see how this works out for a while and report back.DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:I haven't tried that Duplicolor stuff but I have used Herculiner with great results. It dries to a nice tough, rubbery coating...it definitely doesn't scape or chip off easily like regular old paint. I apply it with foam rollers/brushes myself, but yeah, it can also be sprayed on. It has rubber particles in it though, so if you do spray it you will probably need a gun with a large tip like the kind for spraying primers and other thick coatings.Anyway, the bumper looks good. Very nice work!

Reply:I'm not positive on this since I haven't tried thinning it, but I think it can be thinned with Xylene. Here's a link I just found to the spraying instructions on the herculiner website...http://www.herculiner.com/images/spray_instructions.pdf
