Howz this?  I supported my hand on the vice.  Used more filler too.The 23 guage was done free hand.....Elbows out.    .035 wire from the mig for filler.  30 amps.David Attached ImagesReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Not sure what you're doing here. From what I understand, you're welding a thin gauge ALUMINUM sheet with a MIG...or just MIG alum. wire? Are you using a spool gun? I imagine aluminum wire as well?  It's not clear, all this time I thought you were showing examples from the TA 185?John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Sometimes I confuse my self.1/8 sheet aluminum with the TA 185.  1/8 5356 filler, 3/32 pure tungston, 25 cfh argon, 25% cleaning, 100 hz, 125 amps give or take a few.  23 guage carbon steel with the same machine.  .040 2%, 30 amps, .035 filler. Thanks for lookin Last edited by David R; 02-19-2007 at 08:40 PM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I think he TIG'ed it, using mig wire for filler. That's what I do too usually, I take 3 lengths of wire and twist them together with a drill. Works pretty well.Nice job on the fillet!EDIT: whoops, he beat me to the post button, guess I was wrong...
Reply:Guess I should have made 2 seperate posts.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:what size cup are you using for that?
Reply:I shoulda made 2 posts.  The aluminum I am using a 5.  That is all I have.  For the 23 guage, I used a 4.My son (15) was using my only #6 cup on some hot rolled welding very slow.  The cup got coated with spatter from the scale on the plate and he fried the tungston.  I usually grind off scale from hot rolled.  He didn't.  I ordered a box of #6 and #8.I love this tig welding stuff.  I am ordering a foot pedal for my Ranger 250.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
