Hey guys, my names mike i am new to the site. I am a 20yr old welder. I currently am 90% done building my first dune buggy and came accrost my buggy motor, 2001 yzfr6 motor spotting in the garage. After a quick scope i found out their was a hairline crack where, what i belive to have happend was overtightening of the bolt and snapping a crack in the block... or possibly the crash thr bike was involved in prior to installation in this buggy.. i have provided a pic of the crack.. it is unknown at this point what is directly on the other side of the crack.. i plan to check.. possible argon purge if oil is present? Is that needed? Also my plan of attack is to degrease the surface, wirewheel the surface to remove oxide layer. Prehead with map gas? Oxyacetle? Propane? Drill out end to hault the crack. Should i attempt to remove bolt ? Not quite sure what to do with that.. i assume i could plug weld the hole if not needed? Im afraid the crack has penetrated the inner wall of the threads... if so i believe the crack would continue even if the weld is ontop of the crack from start to finish... it would crack under the weld through to the top eventually? What type of filler is best? A old timer at work was trying to explain a braising teq.? Anyone have more info on that? 4043? Thanks for the help.. also my sorrys for the spelling/typing errors.. no computer yet.. on my cell . Thanks again.
