I wanted to share some simple, but strong, safe and inexpensive seat mounts I fabbed up this weekend.  I am building a 1/4" drag car and I need to mount my seats.  I decided to build everything myself and it only cost about $20 in materials for both seats -vs- $60 for a kit from some company that you would still have to fab up more brackets anyway. This setup is rock solid and will pass NHRA tech once the back brace is installed. Reply:I have a few more photos not related to the seat mounts, since others want to see more... here you go...The fuel cell is a custom 10 gal. tank I had made for the car since none of the pre-made ones would fit.  I had them make a mini sump because I have the parachute mount right below the tank and a the standard 2" sumps woudl not fit. The outllets are -12AN.The block is a Dart Big M with Billet Caps 4.6 bore 10.2 deck.Rear end is CA Chassis Works Fab 9 (good for some mega power).  I am ordering 40 spline Strange gun drilled axles next week and a Littlefield 14-71 blower to top it all off...   Things are starting to get fun now! Reply:Thought I recognized these pics from over on YB!If you're going to mount using bottom tabs only, I'd advise using a broader, two bolt brace on the seat back to disperse the load some.  Even with the use of large washers on the bottom, those bolts want to rip out of the seat bottom on forward impact.  That's why you'll see most of the "pro" cars bend a guide rod to follow the sides of the seat and secure it through the side, especially on the carbon fiber/composite seats.  Car looks great though, planning on 25.2'ing either my existing wagon or picking up a fresh car to cut up.  It'll be a cold day in Hell before I even think about going 7.50's, but it just might save my *** if I run that 26x8.5 tire class!  Nothing like throwing 4 digit power at a set of lawnmower tires

Reply:I saw that on the bullet !!
Reply:Originally Posted by carnut68Hey Supe,What's your name on YB?As for the back of the seat, the rules state there has to be at least one bolt in the back of the seat and 4 in the bottom.  I plan in making two braces on the back, one behind the head and one behind the upper back for support using two bolts in each area for strength.Basically I am going to take some tube off the frame to some flat stock and bolt the seat to that.  I will post photos of them when I get it done.  Couple weeks away yet.
