I was given an old post hole digger a couple of years ago for my tractor. Of course, being free, it was not in perfect shape, but being free, it doesn't really matter, does it? The bracket that holds the boom pole is bent, which allows the auger to move side to side. Makes for a less than straight hole, and less than plumb fence post.As you can tell, this thing has been welded on more than once before I found it in someone's junkpile. When I called the company whose name was on the gear housing, they told me that they've not made PHD's since 1982.I took my BFH and did some minor adjusting to the ears, cut out some crude gussets, and took the grinder to the bracket. Not the prettiest weld, but pretty good for me. I really like this new welder though. The slag would peel up on the first side while I was welding the other. Though I have DC now, I need to burn through the 10lbs of 7018AC I have. Since it burns great on DCEP, I guess it doesn't really matter. In closing let's see:gussets, check.dime, checksettings... Crap.. Okay, DCEP rootpass 6011 about 115-120amps capped with 3/32 7018AC, DCEP at around the same 115-120amps.OLD miller M-295 (AC)Century 230/140 ac/dcVictor torchNot much else but some cheap tools. |
