Hey dere;I am working on a tractor cab project and got questions. I was told for fabrication I can use 1/2 electrical conduit, it this kosher? I have downloaded a picture of a similiar rig, maybe it worked! LOL Attached Images
Reply:emt ( electrical conduit) would not be the best -- it s THIN --hard to weld an not burn throughmild steel would be the best looks like that is what that one is made from do it right the first time and he will be happy moweridealarc 250/250 ac-dc tigidealarc 250/250 ac-dc tig #2 used for sticklincoln sp100hh125dual arbor grinder polisher30 yrs of hand tools52 pitch blocks 6p-26prake gauge -pitch gaugeG&D prop repair 918-207-6938Hulbert,okla 74441
Reply:Looks like your tractor does not have ROPS, I would go to your tractor back axles and weld two plates one on each side of the drivers seat with c clamps around the axles holding the plates on top of the axles, from the top of these plates gusset and weld some 4x2 tubing up at an angle backward above your head to hold a large canapy of sheet steel 1/8 to form a canopy, come down from the canopy with 1' square tube and angle iron welded to the tube so you can place your windows in with rubber retainers, and easily put a door at the back. But hold on that looks like a small alwn tractor, that being the case I would use 1" square stock bent around the front. finish it in canvas as what you already have...doesn't look like you are going to be able to do it.Reupolster what you already have or buy a new one.
Reply:1/2" emt("thin wall") is difficult to weld and not very strong.1/2" rigid will be easier to weld and much stronger.(although maybe not strong enough to serve as a ROPS).When welding, watch out for zinc fumes from galvanizing.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
