illo be starting soon on my long dreamed of mud motor. an air cooled boat motor with a long shaft designed for going through mud, weeds over logs, any place with a couple inches of water. anyway, i'[m not sure what to do with the shaft. i've seen how go devil has a pressure lubricator, i guess that keeps oil pressure w/in the shaft housing. as far as bearings, bushings, lock seals, oil seals, whatever else, i have an idea, but not sure how to put it to play. i feel lost, but like the right way is so simple. here's a good link you may want to look at: http://www.kansashunter.org/sites/de...lans%202.0.pdfi know someone on here will be a great help, someone alweays is, this place is great, thanks
Reply:All you need is a machine shop, welder and an Echo weed wacker motor. What's the hold up LOL. If you don't have any of the above i do and can help with whatever you [email protected] WrightSalem, Ohio Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:no i dont need any of those but a welder. i'm using about a 9 horse motor for it. welding myself, and there wont be any machining in it.
Reply:I actually built one of these about 6 years ago (sold it 3yrs go) but with mine it used a 3/4" steel shaft inside a 1" piece of thin walled pipe. inside the pipe there was a bushing made out of brass (one on the top end and one on the bottom. There was also a little plastic busing/bearing of sorts which kept the grease in. i would just squirt a lil grease in b4 each run. The prop came off of ebay and it was a two blade screw type prop. I originally bought a kit and built the motor (from bog hog i think) but i broke it and had to rebuild it haha)
Reply:I scanned through the plans. Didn't see the reference to pressure lubrication anywhere. He did say he adds a few drops of oil before each use. Page eleven shows a pretty good layout of a generic shaft arrangement. With page eleven as the guide you could come up with your own parts list based on what you either have on hand or can scavenge from the local hardware store. The guy goes into a lot of details, only problem is he keeps issuing revisions .. You may want to list those out 1st so you don't shoot right by a step that's been revised three pages later. He's a creative character for sure.
Reply:ya he says on the forum that the furst part are plans he got to make his motor, and the se4cond part is his plans, or somehting like that. he has gone thriough and made many revisions. see those plans didn't have a grease zirt on em, i didn'y know if there was a reason why, how else could you lube it? do you fill the shaft with grease? you, sandy, said use oil. how would you put the oil in?thanks again for the help guys
