I have a Hobart mega Arc 250-G that won't start. I noticed that the Murphy switch light does not come on at all. I know this switch overrides the engine to shut it down if the oil pressure is low. My question is will it cause the motor to not start if the switch is faulty? Also how can I bypass it to see if this is my problem. There are three wires to the switch. One to the coil, one to the swichgage and one to the battery.I'm stumped and am hoping this is my problem.Hobart Mega Arc 250-G Generator/WelderVictor Oxy/Acet Gauges and TorchLincoln AC-225Fiber Metal Pipeliner HoodJackson AD EQC Journeyman HoodHuntsman 411P Hood5 Point CalvinistConstitutional Conservative
Reply:Sure, it can cause it not to start. If you have a meter, you could read the switch contacts to see if the switch reacts when you push the button.
Reply:Jumping from battery term to coil term will by-pass murphy switch. But if it doesn't start with murphy switch button pushed, I would suspect something else.If you have a meter-1.Is there voltage from the batt. term of murphy switch to ground?2.Is there voltage from coil term.to ground with button pushed? You can also look through clear plastic case of murphy switch and check for smokeresidue, contact condition, etc.Last edited by jpump5; 09-17-2011 at 08:46 PM.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:Yes, appears that switch is good and problem is after the switch.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:I'm not familiar with this "short circuit protector " or "Duramark ignition" but1.Do you have voltage to "short circuit protector" ?2.Do you have voltage after "short circuit protector"?3.Is voltage getting from "duramark"to coil(constant, or pulsating when engine is cranked)?Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
