Oxy / Acetylene carts and firewalls ?

Reply:Pardon my ignorance on this, but are y'all talking about a plate that goes between the two tanks or in front of them?  I have an OA setup in my garage, and securely wall mounted a 1/4" strap around both tanks to keep them from falling over.    I have some unused stock that I could stick between them, or in front.  How would you recommend I arrange this?

Reply:Firewalls...Between the tanks.... We just had a inspection and there was no mention of this... Do you mean to say every garage and wherever in the world that has oxy/acc has to have these now??This is what I say..    Go ahead and try to inforce this now...I know I'll get crap for this but You've got to be kidding..Dont expect very many changes soon..   ...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I read the osha articles above amd they said a steel plate 5' tall between the tanks. Reply:In Canada safety regs just changed now so you must have a seperate storage for acetylene/flammable gases . Must be at least 20 feet from other gases, oxygen,nitrogen etc. WE just had to buy another bottle cage for that. Reply:In the U.S. if I recall correctly, the separator plate is needed in any shop that is covered by OSHA regulations. That would be any shop that has employees covered by the regulations. Reply:Howdy,     Here is what OSHA states regarding construction.  Also, as stated earlier, these regulations only apply if you have employees.  The 1/2 hour fire rated wall can be any material you desire, but usually is steel plate which has the appropriate fire rating.  This reg does not apply when you are using, or have the set up ready to use during your shift.  Most large companies are now putting plates on their carts which eliminates the question of "is it storage or is it memorex".Mark1926.350(a)(10)Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one-half hour.Mark WebbSafety Engineer  Bobcat 250Hobart Handler 140My welds look best capped with a grinder,but they hold.
