Does Structural FCAW Weld Test Apply To GMAW?

I heard somewhere that my FCAW structural/light guage weld certifications apply to GMAW and Dual-Shield.  Is this true?  Or do you need to get separate GMAW?Also, if not, if you have GMAW and FCAW, are you automatically certified for Dual-Shield?Where does Dual-Shield fall in under these certifications?Ya, I am sure this has been asked before, but when doing a search for "GMAW/FCAW/Dual-Shield Certifications" on this forum it gives me so many responses and I have gone through tons and still not found this specific answer.Also,if GMAW = Gas Metal Arc Weldingand FCAW = Flux-Core Arc WeldingDoes DSAW = Dual Shielded Arc Welding??Is there a shortened version of of Dual Shield?
Reply:Since GMAW and FCAW are different processes, they require different certifications.Dual-shield and self-shielded flux-cored wires are both FCAW. Also, certifying with self-shielded flux core does not certify you for dual-shielded flux-cored wires. AWS code says that the addition or subtraction or change in composition of a shielding gas in any given process will require re-certification.Visit Tensaiteki.com
Reply:Hmm.  Interesting.  Well, most jobs don't seem to care.  My FCAW certs are good as gold with Dual-Shield in my experience.Hell, my SMAW 7018 1" plate v-grove 1/4" root gap with backing plate certification is as good as gold for most jobs where wire is run.  My current boss said: "Certified in stick?  Well wire is easier, come on and take the weld test".  I passed, and was hired.  Which is nice of him seeing as many jobs do not allow you to touch a welder unless you are certified to weld with it on the material you are certified to weld on.

Reply:What code/spec. are you working to?This general question cannot be answered.There are many different codes that may apply to work you are doing, and each one has slightly different requirements for welder qualification and which welding variables such as process, position, wire, gas, etc, may be changed without requalification.If the customer/employer requires work to a specific code, such as the AWS Structural code, API Petroleum Pipe code, or ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code, then your question can be clearly and specifically answered, otherwise the customer/employer is making up their own specifcation and you'll have to ask them what the rules are.
Reply:This is referring to structural steel.  Mild steel, some AH.  1/4"-3".  The specific work I am doing is on ships, but my question also is referring to steel erection on buildings as well.
