Hey all, Been checking around here for classes.  The only thing I have found is at the community college in the continuing education department.  Its called Welding boot camp.  Here is a linkhttp://www.mchenry.edu/welding/Does this seem like something that would be typical for an introductory course?  Or is this overkill for a hobby welder?  Plus, its $1000.  Is that what these types of courses run?  Seems a little high, but it is 40hrs. and Im sure Id get full run of the lab, equipment, etc. Thanks for the help.  Any input is appreciated.
Reply:Yeah the community colleges are all in that same price range.  But it includes all the gas, wire, filler and material so if you count that it is pretty cheap.  I know for a fact I used up two or three bottles of 75/25 and at least 2 of Ar and a bunch of coup[on plates and grinder wheel when I did it a long time ago.  The important part is learning the correct way to do it from some one who can shorten your learning curve and keep you from parcticing bad habits.   Our local college has a 2 year waiting list to get into the welding technology school and the folks who take the entire school are well versed in most all of the processes.  If you can get the cash I would take the course if you can it will be well worth the money,BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Thanks for the reply.  The guidance is really what I am looking for.  I need some one to tell me what Im doing right and wrong.  The cost doesnt really bother me, I was just curious if this seemed "in the ballpark" to your local CC's.Anyone else have anything they would like to add.
Reply:Ask around and try to get some people's opinions who have been in this welding class, I researched  the two local colleges here for about 2 years( there is about a 2 year waiting list here too), found out that the one college is more expensive but they DON"T teach most of the process', but the cheaper one actually does teach all the common process and after talking to a couple of the major welding/fab companies they preferred guys from the college I am currently going to (the cheaper one).Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:When I went to welding school, I went in, sat down with the teacher and had about a 90 minute conversation with him. It was the best thing I could have done, because I learned that he is an educated man with a passion for weldingGo Cards!!!!!
