I recently came into a whole bunch of 4% thoriated tungsten. Does anyone know what these can be used for and has anyone had any experience with them?
Reply:I had some 1%.  It degraded pretty fast. DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Just another blend of tungsten.  Mildly radioactive.Use it to TIG with of course.Since this is your first and only post, I assume you plan on selling them?Favorite right now is a Miller Syncro 200.Tons of tools and I blame at least one of them when things don't go right.
Reply:3rd welding forum that I know of...Fire!, Fire! Oh wait, that's my torch...Lincoln PT-225 TIGLincoln 175 MIG
Reply:Never heard of 4%, only 2%.Good info on Tungsten alloys here:http://www.diamondground.com
Reply:I have only heard of 2% before normally for DC welding
Reply:They do exist, but are not a "standard" in the US (but are in UK)http://www.arc-zone.com/pdf/SelectingTungsten.pdf
Reply:the 4% make good toothpicks or back scratchers.    Try going through a metal detector at an airport with them!!!
Reply:Highly radioactive. I'll dispose of them for you if you want Seriously don't worry about the radioactivity but do read 2 threads down.If you are worried about whether they are any good. Sorry can't help you there. My Photos on Flickr
