I recently bought a bunch of stuff from an estate sale. Apparently the fellow that owned all this before was quite handy and adaptive. He did a lot of lawnmower and small engine repair, but would actually fix just about anything. One of the rigs that was there was an Oxy-Fuel (lp gas) cutting rig. This had an A or B O2 tank and a 40# lp gas tank (with hp (2800) victor regulator attached). I told the lady that was selling all the stuff that the big tank would likely have been a rental and she should merely call the O2 company the name of which was on the tank itself and let them come get it and perhaps give her back a deposit or whatever. However, I would be happy to take the hoses, torch and lp gas tank, and the box of "junk" that went with it. So far, I have been able to ID most things. The cutting torch is Victor 315 (damn is that thing huge). The hoses are near as I can tell 25' and don't appear to have any cracking. There were tips all Victor with the following numbers (as best I could make out)--TIPS--3-1-4Victor O Type 4100-150Victor 4 Type 1Victor 3 Type 4Victor 2-W3-13-101and a big wooden handled thing looks like it does fuel/room air mix No 3 and it had 101 on it too.--Regulators--Air Products Oxygen 1100Linde Air Products - Type R-207Montgomery Ward (no markings but the gauge goes up to 3000)Victor (on the lp tank, goes up to 2800)2 - Old perhaps medical O2 regulators, and 2 Medical O2 connectors that look like they would connect and adapt to the regular O2 threads. There were lots of electrodes and what I am guessing is silvox or silver solder and possibly brazing rods. A couple tip cleaning sets and whole bunch of steel brushes. I will try to attach some pictures (picassa links) What I am wondering is what is worth keeping to use, and what is worth putting on eBay and what should go right in the trash as an accident waiting to happen?Just skip the pictures of the "Mystery Cylinders" those are a whole other question https://picasaweb.google.com/1057504...eat=directlink
Reply:The only thing I'd be worried about is hooking up the oxygen regulator.  It's been laying in the garage for years.  Who knows if it's had oil or other flammable stuff splashed up in the high pressure side. The other thing to be careful with is the seat in the regulator.  Be ready to quickly cut the bottle valve off if the low side pressure keeps climbing.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:I wonder if it is worth it to even mess with it at all, perhaps it would be better "as-is" on eBay.Are these things maintainable? By which I mean field serviceable? Could I disassemble a regulator, replace some soft items (seals, o-rings, jet valves or something of that nature) and reassemble it? There was a time when things were made that way in this country, even though now everything is supposedly disposable.
Reply:Dunno how I missed replying to this, but better late than never.I'd use soapy water, either Ivory or Dawn dish soap (plain, no special variety) for leak checking. Do it outdoors.--TIPS--3-1-4Victor O Type 4100-150Victor 4 Type 1Victor 3 Type 4Victor 2-W3-13-101
