I finally mad some progress. Weld #4 was the last one I did. I have attached 3 photos of todays welds. Please give me some input on heat, weld, filler etc.I was welding .083 MS, 1/16 Tung., 1/16 Filler, 85A, with Gas Lens.I found out with a gas lens, the welds turn out better when you have at least 1/4" stick out of the Tung. Less that that I was getting some funny lines int he weld bead. I think it was the shielding gas, not for sure, but when I extended the Tung. out more it went away. Thanks in advance.Last edited by ZTFab; 09-03-2007 at 10:59 AM.Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!

Reply:You got it Dude, just burn up a bunch more wire.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Get yourself some 3/32" red for what your doing..Your pushing it with 1/16......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hey Zap,I have some 3/32 Red that I had tried before. I found it easier to control the puddle with the 1/16. I had great puddle control and on the back side of the weld 100% penetration with no sagging. Are you saying to use 3/32 because of the amps I am running? The tung. held up very well with no problems. Maybe on a fillet joint I may have to go with a 3/32. I just looked at my Lincoln chart and they state to use 1/16 Tung with 1/16 filler for 3/32 steel thickness. If I did the numbers correctly, .090 is 3/32 so I am on the border for the 1/16 Tung. Thanks!Build a Barstool Racer at BarFlyRacers.com!
Reply:Pic 2 looks the best!! It's just a practice thing. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return. |
