My first welds/beads...

Hey all, Finally got a chance to try out the MM211.  Here are some pics of my very first beads....ever!   LOL!  I really dont know why Im posting these or what I expect u all to say, I just thought I would share....These are on an old leaf spring that I cut up to make a slapper, so the thckness varies.  The pic of the beads is first on right then goes left.  The first 2 I just tried to go straight down and keep a steady hand.  The next 2 I tried some "U"'s as I went.The other pics are of 2 pieces I welded together.  I tried to push it in "U"'s.  It doesnt look like it really penetrated till the end, but thats where the steel got thinner.  I was set at 4/55 with .030 wire.I put it in the vise and beat on it with a bfg, didnt break, so I guess the penetration was okay.Anyways, like I said, just thought I would share.  Thanks! Reply:Uhmm, I don't think this is the first time, ever. So you chose some of the most difficult steel to weld, left it a bit crusty, and just did it? Reply:the difficulty is caused by the composite of the steel. Yes, get some mild steel to practice with. Clean it up first if it's rusty, shiny metal when using Mig. some times flux core can handle dirty welding area, but it's a better practice to clean the welding area prior to welding.your first 4 welds look cold. the joint looks better, but you can tell at the end you started hurrying.Practice Practice Practice.There are no problems.
