The first project of the day was to build a "manway" cover that lead down into an underground pumphouse, which was originally covered by a sheet of plywood!  It was situated next to an orchard.  I don't have pictures of the brackets we had to build that bolt into the base, but here is the cover itself.  Because they wouldn't spend for new material, we built it from recycled angle iron from an old bed frame, some couplings and some grating that was on hand!  Where this is going (the middle of a field next to an Apple orchard!), there wasn't any need to "pretty" it up!  Really, all this does is replace the plywood cover that was originally there.  I would have liked to be there for the install, but the rental place was closed on saturday that rents out hammer drills.Next, we needed to build some rings to keep overflow water from the reservoir beneath the pumphouse from going back into the system.  I wish I had gotten pictures of the original rings as there was nothing left!  They actually broke free by hand.  Chlorine and steel don't do well over time.  Because they wouldn't spend the money for pipe the proper diameter, we had to build the rings out of 4" pipe and stretch two out per ring.  In the end, the pipe will be syliconed to the floor (I havn't mastered welding steel to concrete yet...Those concrete welding rods are hard to come by!  )(For the record, I took the pictures after I was done.  The welder is off here, hence the stinger casually slumped in the water!)Not pictured are all of the spiderwebs we had to clear out before we could start work on it!  It was like something out of Arachnaphobia.  Good thing I'm not afraid of spiders!  Everything was welded with 6010 (gravy rod!)Kneeling in the water, I only shocked myself once!  S'funny that!  Last edited by mb_welder; 07-21-2009 at 02:59 AM.
