Reply:There's a company named Hartzell in Piqua Oh that manufactures airplane propellers.  You might check with them...http://www.hartzellprop.com/Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:Despite living in FL, I am no familiar with airboats.  Is 15hp enough to drive a 4ft prop and produce any thrust at all?  I know my 90hp outboard with a 16" prop doesn't have a lot of get-up-n-go...
Reply:I was into airboats for a few years. I built a 12 foot fiberglass boat powered by a Chevy 350. (I've been meaning to dig up the old 35mm photos and scan them for my website.)Onto your issue. 15HP is not going to turn much of a prop, unless it's for a scale model boat. My 350 was slinging a 68" 38 degree Sensenich (http://www.sensenich.com/) wood prop. Full throttle with a 4 bbl carburetor, the engine would max out at 3400 rpm, before it ran out of HP. I'm guessing it was putting out at least 180 HP at that RPM. For that diameter prop, 3400 is about as fast as you want to turn it. Any faster, and the tips will achieve supersonic speed, and the prop will eventually explode. Compared with the other guys I was running with, my boat was low power. Others were running true aircraft engines, that made 400 HP at 2800 RPM and weighed half as much as my iron block car motor. I don't think 15 HP is enough to turn a 4 foot prop at any pitch. The smallest engines I've seen on any airboat were Rotax units that probably were putting out 50 HP. They were turning light weight carbon fiber props (BIG $$$) that were about 36" in diameter. They mounted these on 10 foot aluminum jon boats. They would only run in the water, and not very efficiently. One would be better off with a 9.9 outboard.Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC (Sold)Miller Dialarc 250HFMiller MM251Miller MM200 (Sold)Miller MM130Miller Spot WelderVictor O/A rigMiller Spoolmatic 1 (Sold)
