I am real new to Tig welding could someone tell me what size as in .040 or 1/16 1/8 or 3/32 that I need to use on say 11ga steel and aluminum what color do I buy and what brand is good or does it matter. What about filler rod for aluminum 11GA and or 11ga mild steelThanks
Reply:1/16 or 3/32 would be fine for what you are doing. What kind of welder are you using? If its an inverter buy red for everything. If its a sine wave (heavy) welder, you may need green for aluminum on AC.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:One more questionweldcraft has red and what looks like orange Orange is 2% Ceriatedred is 2% Thoriatedwhich do I want and what is the difference
Reply:Thorated is radioactive. I guess it won't hurt you unless you injest the dust from grinding the tungsten.Cerated is another rare earth element that is supposed to be as good. I can't tell the difference.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I have been running 1.5% Lanthanated (Gold) 3/32 and like them. I did not have good luck with 2% Ceriated (Orange). You can request samples from:http://www.diamondground.com/freesample.htmlMe!
Reply:I have one gold tungsten. It seems to not get contaminated as easily.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
